Foster Care

Eastside Foster Care Ministries began in 2025, and we are excited to step into our community to help the most vulnerable among us: children. James 1:27 reads, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress..” Psalms 68:5-6 says, “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families.” We are unequivocally called to care for the most vulnerable in our communities by being Christ’s hands and feet, coming alongside them with active support. God is moving in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, and we’re so glad that we get to be a part of what He’s doing here! We can’t wait to see what He does next!

There are many people in our area who are already doing great work to support the foster care community, and we are honored to walk beside them as co-laborers. Our church family has been able to:

  • Support our local Department of Social Services (DSS) by purchasing gift cards for children coming into care, and providing lunches and gifts for employees
  • Partner with CarePortal to connect churches with local families in need
  • Host Foster the Family support groups & Isaiah 117 House volunteer training
  • Join with Blue Ridge Foster VA to carry out service opportunities
  • Provide community events for families who foster
  • Participate in material drives, like DSS's Christmas with Santa
  • and more!

Through this work, we hope to be a landing place where support is found by those who need it!

To the child who experienced life in the foster care system: You are not alone. We hope you know that you are a beloved child of the Father. You belong, and you are a part of His family, our family.

To the foster parents out there: You are not alone. Eastside sees your heart and your hope for God to heal and breathe life into the families that have been torn apart. This is holy work and what God has called you to, He will bring you through!

To the social worker reading this: You are not alone. Keep your head up! You are making a difference for the good of each and every individual connected to this work!
